Red Arrows have stunned champions Power Dynamos to lift the Charity Shield, claiming the season's first silverware and laying down an early marker in the title race.
The airmen, disciplined and dangerous on the counter, frustrated a Power side still catching its breath from continental commitments — the Kitwe giants have been juggling domestic duties with their CAF Champions League campaign, which took them to Ndola this month for the second leg against Al Merrikh.
The Shield does not decide championships, but it does reveal depth and intent. Arrows' victory announces that the challengers have spent the off-season well, and that Power's crown will be defended under genuine pressure this term.
For Dynamos, the consolation is calendar rather than trophy: the CAF campaign remains the bigger prize, and September's congested fixture list was always going to demand rotation. The league season now opens with the rare pleasure of a genuine race already underway.
